Sinclair's multicast network Charge adding "Homicide: Life on the Street"
Sinclair said Monday it will add the acclaimed crime drama "Homicide: Life on the Street" and its follow-up "Homicide: The Movie" to the programming schedule of its multicast network Charge next month.
The show will debut September 1 across the multicast network, which is distributed nationwide and focused heavily on police procedurals. It will be the first time Homicide has aired on broadcast TV since its initial run on NBC from 1993 to 1999.
Based on David Simon’s nonfiction book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets," the series chronicled the work of a Baltimore homicide division with a stark, realistic style that influenced later programs in the genre. Simon would later go on to create "The Wire" for HBO.
"Homicide: Life on the Street" premiered in 1993 on NBC and ran for seven seasons. The pilot was directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson. Over its run, the program earned four Emmy Awards, three Peabody Awards and recognition from the Television Critics Association, Directors Guild of America, Writers Guild of America and other industry organizations.
The series also became known for its ensemble cast, including the late Andre Braugher, Richard Belzer and Melissa Leo, along with high-profile guest appearances by Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Paul Giamatti, Edie Falco, Jake Gyllenhaal, Luis Guzmán, Marcia Gay Harden, Steve Buscemi and Vincent D’Onofrio.
"Homicide: Life on the Street broke new ground in the crime drama genre and remains one of television’s most compelling and authentic series," Adam Ware, the Senior Vice President of Sinclair’s Growth Networks, said in a statement on Monday. "We’re proud to bring it back to broadcast on Charge, where it joins a powerhouse lineup of iconic law enforcement franchises like 'Criminal Minds,' 'CSI' and 'Law & Order.' This addition reinforces Charge as the ultimate destination for fans of smart, high-stakes procedural drama."
The addition comes as Charge expands its fall slate anchored by established police procedurals including "Criminal Minds," "CSI: Miami," "CSI: NY" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
Sinclair also confirmed that its annual tent pole event, Charge Con 2026, will air in May and feature "Homicide: Life on the Street." Charge Con launched earlier this year with a salute to CSI.
