Media stakeholders are complaining about Nielsen's lackluster measurement tools — and a growing base of competitors, with their own viewership reporting practices, aren't helping.

NFL games account for nearly all of the top 100 TV shows watched in the U.S. each year, per Nielsen's data. So, when the NFL — the biggest benefactor of Nielsen ratings — calls Nielsen's reporting into question, that is a big deal.
